Myths about the pastors are kind of funny. Sometimes people will say to us, well, you can do it, you only work on Sunday, right? Or they might think we are always just as happy as we can be….not true. Here’s a list of the top ten things we usually hear that are myths about the pastor and his family.
10. Pastor’s love chicken when you invite them over…..ha..ha…I don’t know where that came from. Probably because my mother always made fried chicken when the pastor came over!! Kind of makes me laugh now……
9. The pastors family is expected to be perfect……across the board, it’s obvious, there are no perfect people, so why would the pastor’s family be perfect.
8. Pastors are always in a good mood. Apparently you haven’t seen the pastor in this house watching the news….it ain’t pretty.
7. Pastors know every single word in the Bible, so they can tell you exactly where that verse is. It is true that pastor’s do study the word and no doubt know many scriptures, but really……it’s impossible to know every word. And everyone has to go back and reread familiar passages as a reminder.
6. The pastor’s wife should play piano and lead all women’s Bible studies. Although it’s true that some pastor’s have a wife that is gifted in this area, that is certainly not the case for all! Each has certain gifts God uses how He sees fit. Some like to bite the heads off snakes…..just a joke people….oh wait that’s another myth!
5. The pastor is a mind reader. One of my personal favorites! No…….should I say it again……ok…no.
4. Pastors never, ever, on any ocassions……cuss! I’m sure that’s not what I heard when that bull plowed through his horse, the fence, a couple of men, and high tailed it to the brush.
3. I thought the pastor only worked on Sunday! Yes, this is a standing joke at church with one fella….it’s a joke because he knows it’s not true. Many pastors hold down second jobs, it’s a good thing though….maybe the government could take a lesson.
2. “The pastor or the church is after my money!” Most are not after your money, I can’t speak for them all but I know the ones we know are pretty genuine and are pastors because they love it.
1. Pastors are whimpy! Again, I’m speaking for the ones I know and the man who lives in this house…..not a whimp.
