The other day I took a walk with my camera. I actually was doing a little stress relieving and a walk sounded like the ticket to clear my mind. I hadn’t taken pictures in awhile so the opportunity and the light outside was in my favor. Leading up to the walk several things had become my focus. The “to-do” list, a hectic schedule, a stomach that was in knots, worrying about people…well…you get the point. My focus had gotten a little out of whack….this was before I wrote my last post on, How To Have a Perfect Day. I just needed the reminder. I wonder if you have ever been there. Have you been focused on work, or a relationship, or your kids, have you worried about bills, or putting shoes on horses, or when the feed will be delivered? These things can quickly become our focus if we let it.
“Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also”, Matt. 6:21. You may have heard it. Did you know we put our treasure in worry sometimes? We put our treasure in discontentment. We put our treasure in the storm. And if that’s the case for you, as it can be for me as well, it’s time to audit your heart. It’s time to get the books out and tally up where your treasure is. Even in the Spring time, we need to be reminded of gratitude and write them out. Someday someone will find your list and see their name on it. They will know the simple things in life that need to be recorded. So here’s mine.
- My relationship with Christ
- My man of 28 years
- My family
- A pen and paper…..to write and encourage others
- A camera….to tell a story thru a lens
- A horse named Sugar, to carry me to an adventure
- Some cattle to gather and to be the subjects in my photo shoots.
- A love story to tell
- A new day
- A fresh start
- A hope
- A dream
- A prayer….many, many prayers
- A listening ear
- A friend, or two, or three….probably more
- A Bible
- A plan
- A song to sing
- A dance
- A heart
- A home
- A truck to take us to town
- A smile
- A warm cup of coffee in my hand
So what about you, do you have some things to write down, to tally up? If so, I guarantee it will bring things back into focus.
Could you share a few things that you treasure? I love comments on my blog and always look forward to hearing from you…..thecowboypastorswife
Being the wife of 36 yrs to a NEW cowboy pastor…I have never found myself in more of a need to focus then now! We have served God for over 25 yrs. but this new journey we are on seems to leave me usually more frazzled and upset then any other time in my life.
I know where this comes from. I am learning to re-adjust my lens both physically and emotionally. I covet so much prayer from this sister in Christ reading my heart felt post. I do enjoy reading your blog, keep up Gods work!
Hey sister, I hear you. Being a Cowboy Pastor’s Wife is a whole new area to tread that challenges every bit of your being. Hang in their my sister in Christ, we are here for each other. We are all here to remind each other of the focus. Oh the great privilege of praying for one another. Keep up the work….your reward is great!!
Hi Norma,
I don’t know how many guys write or comment but, I love your post! You see that I share them and are encouraged by them and I share and talk about them with Kimberly.
The other Sunday afternoon we had 3 little bull calves that needed to be worked and 6 big claves to sort and get ready to take to the sale barn. Kimberly helped me by holding a front leg and giving the 8way vaccine, and like she said: “remember, I’ve never done this” It went pretty smooth and when we were done, about sundown, I got us each a beer and we stood there running water for the big calves in the pen and watched the sunset. I told her, “this is what I had in mind when I bought the cows. They are for us!” That’s marriage counseling to me, working those calves together. That sunset was gorgeous and that beer tasted great!
Thank you and God bless you and Wendel! Keep writing!
Dudley
Dudley, Reading what you wrote just put a huge smile on my face. Thank you for reading my post and for sharing them. I love what you shared about you and Kimberly working your little bull calves. I believe the best marriage counseling happens in the pens. I love the visual of you two and the rewards of looking back at what you accomplish together. Thank you again for the encouragement and I will share your story with Wendel. Norma
