5K anyone?  Well that’s what I did today.  My first in fact!  Yes, I’m 44 and entered my very first one.  I really don’t like to run.  In the past I would hear of ladies who said they ran and I thought, “No thanks!”

A couple of months ago, I decided to give running a try. Or I should say I gave jogging a try…running would look alot better than what I do.  So, out to our dirt road I began the “training”.  You see our road is pretty rough, not quite a mile long, and involves a creek crossings, some sizable rocks, and pretty good inclines.

For two weeks, well…I barely made it a mile.  The next two weeks, I managed to work up to about two.  The next three weeks looked much the same.  This past week, I was finally able to do three miles….well kinda.

Race day arrived with a blast….a blast of cold air!  The day began with temps in the low forties. Under layers of excercise clothes, ipod and chapstick in hand, I headed out the door for the 5k.  Registration, a number pinned on my back, I lined up with some great friends and off we went.  The race was underway….

Around cabins, up a few little hills, and then the mother of all hills….OUCH! Throw in some nice curves to make a loop out behind the camp, ending back where we started.  Exhausted?….yes!  Surprised?…to say the least!  Feeling accomplished?…..you bet!  No, I didn’t win.  I didn’t set any records.  I came in fourteenth, my time a little over thirty two minutes, but a personal accomplishment….absolutely!
